Graham Potter sacked, So what's next?

Chelsea have finally pulled the trigger on sacking Graham Potter which seemed to be what most Chelsea fans wanted. However whats next and what is the plan for the Chelsea owners going forwards with their next appointment being extremely important. Lets have a look at some reasons Potter has been dismissed an

d then my favourite to replace him in the Chelsea post.

Potter started at Chelsea under immediate pressure from the fan base due to the love and admiration Chelsea fans had towards Thomas Tu

chel. The shocking nature of Tuchel's dismissal left Chelsea fans deeply upset and therefore Potter was coming into an already impossible job.

This being said, Potter's first month in charge was actually successful considering he went 9 games unbeaten when first joining the club. This included two wins over AC milan in the Champions league group stage, aswell as some strong Premier league performances against Wolves (3-0 win) and Aston villa (2-0 win). This run was halted by none other than Potter's former team Brighton after being smashed 4-1 by De Zerbi's men. This is where the dominoes began to fall as Chelsea went on to lose to Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle all of which were in dismal fashion.

Returning from the month long World Cup break, there was optimism at SW6. Injured players returning such as Reece James, Ben Chilwell and summer signing Wesley Fofana, Potter having a month to train with certain non internationals at the club and integrate his ideas, as well as settling in further at the club without the burden of a game every 3 days. However this optimism was not met kindly. Winning only 5 out of the 17 games played since returning on the 27th of December. This awful run of form, aswell as regressive performances showing no signs of improvement is what got Chelsea fans on Potter's back and this was eventually what sealed Potter's fate.

Once the majority of fans had lost their

patience with Potter each performance bought more and more pressure for the owners to make a move. On the 2nd of April they finally pulled the trigger and sacked Graham Potter and I believe they thought now was the time due to one person being available on the market to take over the Chelsea post.

Which brings us to Julian Nagelsmann. The talented 35 year old German manager who was recently sacked by Bayern Munich is someone Chelsea have admired for a long time. Nagelsmann is known to be an attacking minded manager, who is an extremely good tactician, who can be inovative on a fixture to fixture basis to find solutions based on opposition.

With the group of talented players currently at Chelsea, and the project being heavility invested into by the new owners, Nagelsmann could be the answer to Chelsea's recent woes and allow them to start building towards the future with their young and exciting team.

Nagelsmann usually deploys a 4-2-3-1 which is what he was best known for at Bayern Munich. With the personnel at Chelsea currently fitting this formation and the attacking philosophy that comes with Julian Nagelsmann, it seems to be a match made in heaven. Nagelsmann has also been known to use the 3 at the back formations (similar to Chelsea) at both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. This

flexibility from Nagelsmann will fit with the Chelsea squad he would have at his disposal.

Finally something Nagelsmann has that Potter did not is elite level pedigree. Potter whilst being a very tactically astute coach, and having a high level of emotional intelligence, one thing he did not have was a previous catalogue to suggest he could take Chelsea back to winning Premier league titles and Challenging for Major honours on all fronts. This is something Nagelsmann does have as he has already managed at the elite level with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. He has taken RB Leipzig to the Semi finals of the Champions league and had won 8/8 Champions league games with Bayern Munich this season including wins against PSG, Barcelona and Inter Milan. With Chelsea still competing in the Champions league this season, could Nagelsmann lead Chelsea past Real Madrid in the Quarter finals and possibly be re united with Bayern Munich in the semi finals?

In my opinion, Nagelsmann is the perfect choice in manager for Chelsea. He would offer both a young, project styled appointment whilst brin

ging vast experience and pedigree at such a young age. His philosophy matches that of which Chelsea are striving to play and will get the fans off of their feet and on his side.
